Divorce: A Nevada Tradition December 17 2014

For many years, thanks to lax residency requirements, the state of Nevada had a monopoly on American divorce. Have a look at this Marital Status print and you'll see that Nevada's monopoly actually goes back a long way.

Though it wasn't until many years later that divorce ranches cropped up in Reno, Nevada already had the highest rate of divorce in the nation back in 1890.

Check out the print for more info on what were evidently known as "conjugal conditions" at that time.

As a wise man* once said, "Divorce is always good news. I know that sounds weird, but it's true, because no good marriage has ever ended in divorce." And, moreover: "Divorce is forever! It really actually is. Marriage is for how long you can hack it. But divorce just gets stronger like a piece of oak. Nobody ever says 'oh, my divorce is falling apart, it's over, I can't take it.'"
